2007 Winner : Improving schooling and social insertion

A PhD student at the educational research laboratory of the Université Pierre Mendès France in Grenoble, Nadia Leroy is writing her thesis on the evolution of pupil motivation during the primary/secondary school transition.

Her aim is to “identify the pivotal periods of inflexion” in order to better prevent failure at school. She also looks to “recognise the contextual (educational, family practices) and individual (self-esteem) factors that encourage, promote and support an optimum level of motivation”.

The practical issue I am aiming for is “to give ourselves not only the means to improve pupils’ schooling, but also improve their social insertion”, explains Nadia Leroy.
