Understanding adoption

The aim of this guide is to provide pointers to health professionals who often encounter adopted children and their families.

Indeed, health care and early childhood professionals are often solicited at different stages: before adoption, to shed light on the parents’ decision without making it for them; on children’s arrival in their new home, for a prudent assessment of their health. Later, at the onset of a symptom or difficulty, in order to discern which elements are due to the adoption.

This guide has been drawn up with an ad hoc Scientific Committee bringing together the following experts: Pascaline de Dreuzy, Jean-Vital de Monléon, Anne de Truchis, paediatricians, Bahvani Cherer, psychologist (guide authors); Catherine Guilliaumet, psychologist, Monique Delaby, from the association Enfance & Familles d’Adoption 77, Catherine Romain, paediatrician and Dominique Rosset, child psychiatrist.
