The Link – Booklet on preparing for neonatal separation
This booklet illustrates the stages experienced by couples on a birth characterised by separation from the child at birth.
Created by the team effort of a group of professionals from the Childcare and Perinatology Institute in Paris – the leading institution in France in this sector – and parents of premature babies with retarded growth or a malformation, this leaflet is the result of sharing experiences and aims at informing you while acting as a back-up to discussions.
It is divided into ten “chapters” successively evoking the paths of women, couples and then new parents through the prenatal period, labour, birth, the stay in paediatrics and the return to the child’s home. Each chapter provides the questions that couples ask themselves, useful information (medical or technical) and also food for thought, subjects for discussion and advice from other parents who have been through these difficulties.
The coordinator of the booklet is Dr. Véronique MIRLESSE, specialised in obstetrics and gynaecology and winner of the Mustela Foundation Research Grant in 2009 for her public health thesis specialising in social sciences devoted to “Anticipating dealing with a handicap in the prenatal diagnosis”.
