2009 Winner

Dr. Florence GUIDANI-ROMAIN

For its fourth awards ceremony the Social Paediatrics award has been given to Dr. Florence GUIDANI-ROMAIN, a doctor working in small and medium sized companies in Jassans-Riottier (the department of Ain) for her project in collaboration with the ADESSA Association – Ain Health Education: “Making families aware of the problems associated with children’s pace of life and the repercussions on both the child’s development and family equilibrium or social integration”.

The health assessments carried out in nursery schools and during young children’s consultations have shown over the past few years that a significant proportion of children suffer from problems associated with their pace of life (diet, sleep, etc) or/and excess weight.

The objectives of the project are as follows:

  • To adapt professional practices as close as possible to personal characteristics
  • To raise parents and professionals awareness with regard to the problems encountered in early childhood and the repercussions on both the child’s development and family equilibrium or social integration.

The support of the Mustela Foundation will enable the successful completion of this project in the cantons of Trévoux and Montluel, which bring together 1,700 children from 3 to 5 years of age, 16% of whom have difficulties in these areas. In concrete terms, a series of twelve annual workshops on “children’s pace of life” will be organised with the Ain Departmental Association of Sanitary and Social Education, receiving 10 to 15 people per session. In addition, various actions will be implemented to raise the awareness of the professionals confronted with these same issues.
