Social Paediatrics Award 2007 Winner

The Scientific Committee awarded the second edition of the Social Paediatrics Award to Doctor Claude BOUDERLIQUE for the project entitled “From music to paediatrics at the Teaching Hospital in Angers”.

This project consists in organising twice-monthly musical interventions in two paediatric units of the Teaching Hospitals in Angers, for a period of six months. A few thousand children benefited from this operation in the paediatric Neurology and Oncology-immuno-haematology units in 2008 alone.

The aim is to:

  • facilitate communication between children, families and care teams,
  • make care teams aware of the musical repertoires, so that the musicians’ intervention can be carried on later outside of hospital,
  • support the care teams in their everyday work,
  • improve the hospitalisation conditions of young patients, by maintaining a contact with the outside world.

Musicians will play their part in a number of ways, making hospitalised children aware of the musical world (discovering instruments, rhythms, songs from the five continents) and enabling them to get to grips with their own musical abilities (voice, small percussion instruments, maracas, rain sticks…).

Doctor Claude Bouderlique presented the results of his action during the Annual SFP Convention on 5 June 2008.
